The London boys and girls golf teams captured the District 29-3A championships at the Alice Municipal Golf Course earlier this week.
The girls claimed their fourth consecutive district title after posting a team score of 342 to finish ahead of second-place Mathis in the team standings.
The girls were led by co-district champions Payton Freeman and Ava Villegas, who each shot an 81. It marked the first district title for Freeman and the third consecutive title for Villegas.
Juli Jimenez finished third individually with an 88. Kendall Olsovsky of London and Amber Martinez of Mathis also qualified for the regional tournament as individuals. Other members of the London girls team are Eva Lucia Gonzalez and Anna Grabowski.
On the boys side, the Pirates claimed first and second place to earn two regional tournament berths. The London maroon team won the district title with a team score of 341, led by district champion Layton Brewer, who shot a personal-best 79.
The London black team finished second with a 343 behind Trace Renteria, who placed third individually with an 80. Other team members were Ty Wiseman, Ty Trevino, Dash Guerra and Jackson Cannon.
George West’s William Balew qualified for regionals as an individual after placing second with an 80 and Odem’s Austin Marroquin advanced with an 82.
The regional tournament for the boys is scheduled for April 13 and 14 at Victoria Country Club. London will be seeking its third consecutive state tournament appearance. The girls regional tournament is scheduled for April 15 and 16 at Victoria Country Club. The Pirates will be seeking their fourth straight trip to the state tournament.
