SEC WR Rankings: How does the Longhorns unit stack up?

As we continue barreling towards the season, we continue rolling through our SEC position rankings. The Longhorns checked in near the top of the conference when it comes to QBs and RBs. Today, it’s all about the playmakers on the outside. The WR talent around the conference is incredible, especially among the Top 10 units in the league.

Here’s how the WR units stack up in my eyes:

1. Texas Longhorns

There’s an argument Texas will have the best WR unit in the country this season. Cam Coleman joins as one of the best WRs in the country. Ryan Wingo returns as one of the best YAC players in the country. Emmett Mosley fills out the starting trio, a true technician that showed his upside while healthy last season. On top of that, the amount of talent behind them is as good as you’ll find around the country.

2. Florida Gators

There is an argument Florida has the best starting trio in the conference, with Dallas Wilson, Vernell Brown and Eric Singleton. That’s a remarkably dynamic trio that can attack defenses in every way imaginable. In terms of depth, it’s not the strongest, but Micah Mays and Bailey Stockton will provide solid reps.

3. Alabama Crimson Tide

This unit could finish the season as the best in the SEC. Ryan Coleman-Williams is looking for a bounceback junior season, Lotzier Brooks could be the next star WR in college football and Noah Rogers joins from NC State. Rogers will miss the start of the season with a leg injury but I expect him to be dangerous when he returns. Add to that Derek Meadows, Rico Scott and Cedarian Morgan, this could be an incredible unit.

4. LSU Tigers

LSU seemingly doesn’t have a bonafide WR1 but they have six playable WRs. I assume Jayce Brown, the transfer from Kansas State, will lead the way for the Tigers. Jackson Harris from Hawai’i and Winston Watkins from Ole Miss fill out the likely starting trio. Then, Malik Elzy(Illinois), Tre’ Brown(Old Dominion), Tre Wilson(Florida) add experience and talent to the depth unit.

5. Texas A&M Aggies

Mario Craver is back in College Station and he leads an incredibly talented unit into battle this season. Asthon Bethel-Roman showed his insane upside last season, as did Terry Bussey. Isaiah Horton joined from Alabama and seems to be making a strong early impression. Two names to watch here are Aaron Gregory and Jerome Myles.

6. Tennessee Volunteers

The Tennessee WR unit could be the most overlooked group on this list. Mike Matthews enters his junior season after an 800-yard sophomore campaign. Braylon Staley looks to continue his ascension as a top WR in the country. Radarious Jackson, Travis Smith Jr. and five-star freshman Tristen Keys fill out a talented unit.

7. Ole Miss Rebels

Ole Miss lost a few playmakers with Lane Kiffin’s departure but still boasts a top-tier WR unit. Deuce Alexander, one of the sole returners, leads the way. Syracuse transfer Darrell Gill, former Longhorn Johntay Cook and Auburn transfer Horatio Fields fill out the group behind him. This unit with Trinidad Chambliss will be incredibly dangerous.

8. Georgia Bulldogs

Many expected Georgia to be more active in the portal at this position. In my eyes, they did plenty adding Isaiah Canion, a true X-WR, to a room filled with speed. London Humphreys and Sacovie White-Helton are players I expect to take another step forward. Craig Dandridge and Kaiden Prothro are two freshmen that can make an instant impact. The unit lacks known talent but I believe it’ll be a strong group this season.

9. Oklahoma Sooners

Oklahoma did plenty in the portal to improve this position from a season ago. Isaiah Sategna leads the way as one of the best WRs in the conference. Trell Harris, transfer from Virginia, should be the WR2 to Sategna this season. Texas transfer Parker Livingstone fills out the starting group. The depth isn’t elite but has upside.

10. Mississippi State Bulldogs

This is a dangerous unit I believe will cause issues for every secondary they play. Anthony Evans III figures to be WR1 for the Bulldogs, with Missouri transfer Marquis Johnson and Ayden Williams as his likely counterparts. A depth name to watch here is Sanfrisco Magee. The RS-SO is shining this offseason and could earn a starting job.
