Estimates from the Texas Demographer’s Office indicate Wichita Falls has lost 630 residents since the last official Census Bureau count in 2020, but the surrounding area picked up 527 people.
The demographer’s office released its final biennial estimates this week.
The numbers show the Wichita Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area gained 527 people over the past five years.
The Wichita Falls MSA consists of Wichita, Archer and Clay counties. The estimates indicate:
Population of the state is approaching 32 million.
Helen You, the associate director of the Texas Demographic Center, has said Texas will be increasingly reliant on migration for future growth because the state’s fertility rate has been declining since 2007.
She said without in-migration, the state’s population would steadily shrink.
