With an SEC championship secured, the Lady Longhorns are shifting their focus to the NCAA tournament. They are poised for a deep playoff run with a talented roster led by Madison Booker. The Longhorns’ star has been key to the program’s success and was named the AP Player of the Week on Tuesday.
During the SEC tournament, the Mississippi native averaged 20 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. She was extremely efficient with the ball in her hands, shooting 61.4 percent from the field while dishing out 13 assists. The talented guard also made an impact on defense with six steals.
For Booker, the honor comes as no surprise given how good she has been this year. She is currently averaging career highs in points per game with 18.9 and rebounds per game with 6.5. Regardless of the opponent, Booker has found a way to make an impact and put her teammates in a position to be successful.
As the Germantown High star has lit up the scoreboard, she has etched her name into the record books. She has climbed into sixth on the program’s scoring list with no signs of slowing down. Booker is also the only Longhorn to reach 1,800 points, 600 rebounds, and 400 assists.
Since stepping foot on campus, Booker has been one of the best players in the country. She has also taken her game to another level whenever the stakes are higher, as she did against some of the best teams in the SEC. With Booker leading the way, Texas has a chance to end its title drought as she continues to add to her trophy case.
