Outdoor enthusiasts with adventurous spirits may want to head down to Palo Duro Canyon this weekend, where Jeep Jamboree USA is presenting the 38th Palo Duro Jeep Jamboree.
The off-road weekend of adventure runs Friday and Saturday, April 24 and 25, and blends the outdoors, down-to-earth people, and their Jeep 4x4s together, according to provided information promoting the event.
Jeep enthusiasts will experience a perfect setting, using the style and capabilities of the Jeep brand, in the unique, rugged setting at the Palo Duro Canyon.
This event is part of a 70+ year off-road tradition tracing back to the Rubicon Trail in 1953 and offers attendees compelling local color, vivid visuals, and the chance to explore the enduring impact of the Jeep lifestyle, with Jeeps maneuvering into crevices and canyons where regular cars can’t go.
For those participating, the jamboree begins at Cowboy Morning Figure 3 Ranch, located at 4510 County Road 9, in Claude. Trail rides go Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Jeep Jamboree USA off-road treks have a long-standing tradition dating back to 1953, when 4×4 pioneer Mark A. Smith organized the first-ever Jeep Jamboree and voyaged across the Sierra Nevada Mountains by way of the old Rubicon Trail. In 1954, Willys Motors (original manufacturer of Jeep vehicles) created Jeep Jamborees and paved the way for the off-road tradition ever since, organizers said.
Among fun facts, 92% of all Jeep Jamboree participants attend with a Jeep Wrangler, and the majority of those Wranglers in attendance are modified, with bigger tires, aftermarket bumpers, winches, etc.
Visitors to the Jeep Jamboree can find two other interesting happenings in the Palo Duro Canyon area this weekend.
Kidpreneur event at Sad Monkey Mercantile
At the nearby Sad Monkey Mercantile, a Kidpreneur Market will be taking place Saturday, with pint-sized vendors selling their wares and learning about business. They will also have souvenirs and delicious sandwiches and lunches there, as well as a good selection of beers and wines, tea and soft drinks. Ice cream is also available.
Time capsule from Texas Parks & Wildlife Dept.
An interesting Centennial Time Capsule, which holds 100 years of Texas State Parks history, is now on display at the Palo Duro Canyon State Park. It has been moving from park to park, and it will be available to be seen for several months.
