The investigating trooper said the private carrier inmate transfer bus and a pickup were in a one-lane construction zone, and the pickup was following a pilot vehicle at slow speed when the bus hit it from the rear.

The DPS said all the inmates had minor injuries. The bus was transporting prisoners from Hays County to Haskell.
