Is Texas Tech football still projected to the College Football Playoff after Arizona State loss?

The Texas Tech football team took a hit to its College Football Playoff standing, but the Red Raiders are still firmly in contention.

Last week, the Red Raiders were considered a surefire CFP team. That largely remains the case after the 26-22 road loss at Arizona State. That’s because there’s still five regular-season games left to play, and Texas Tech can still get the job done with some different math involved.

National outlets still consider Texas Tech among the best teams in the country. Here’s where they have them projected this week.

ESPN: College Football Playoff (11-seed)

The duo of Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach kept Texas Tech in its projected College Football Playoff field though have it hitting the road in the first round. Bonagura has the Red Raiders playing at Georgia while Schlabach has them playing at Oregon. Each has Tech as the 11-seed and both also have BYU in the field as the 10-seed.

CBS Sports: College Football Playoff (7-seed)

Brad Crawford of CBS Sports hasn’t dropped the Red Raiders much, giving them the 7-seed in the CFP field and hosting 10-seed Ole Miss in Jones AT&T Stadium in the first round. He has Texas Tech as the lone Big 12 rep in his CFP bracket.

On3: College Football Playoff (10-seed)

Brett McMurphy of On3 is pegging the Red Raiders to the CFP as well, giving them the Big 12’s lone bid and having them play at 7-seed Miami in the first round as the 10-seed.

The Athletic: College Football Playoff (6-seed)

The Athletic’s pairing of Scott Dochterman and Stewart Mandel have given Texas Tech a home game in the CFP after earning the 6-seed in their latest projections. That has the Red Raiders hosting 11-seed Notre Dame and the winner taking on Indiana in the quarterfinals.
