How Texas Tech fans won over Oregon supporter at Orange Bowl | Letter to the Editor

On New Year’s Day I had the pleasure of being surrounded by Texas Tech fans at the Orange Bowl.

I am an Oregon Ducks fan, but now I have another team to cheer for: the Red Raiders.

Your fans are kind and gracious. We saw that from the outset. After the game ended, I experienced first hand their compassion.

I guess the heat caught up to me, and I fainted while waiting for an Uber.

A nurse, her husband (a doctor) and her two children came right over and tended to me.

For almost an hour, they made sure I was OK, giving me their drinks and food, checking my pulse, eyes and head, and asking me questions to make sure I did not require further attention.

In the meantime, another kind Texas Tech fan came over with two large cups of ice water for me.

I was not clear headed, and neglected to ask any of their names, which I regret.

I’m writing to express my gratitude toward these kind souls. Thank you. They are a reminder of the goodness of humanity, and that we are all in this together, despite our differences.

Red Raiders, you have a new Florida-based fan. Thank you to my caretakers. I hope you see this. – Doreen Sabina, Atlantic Beach, Florida.
