Democratic candidate for Texas governor, Gina Hinojosa, addressed the race for the U.S. Senate and the large strides by fellow Democrat James Talarico.
“My grandmother would always tell me, ‘No te dejes.’ Don’t let them push you around. Fight back. That’s the spirit driving this campaign and what’s driving the Democratic ticket this year,” Hinojosa said in a campaign donation news release Tuesday, May 5.
She noted her bid for Texas governor is to end “Greg Abbott’s corruption tax on working Texans” and deliver the basics to families in the state. She also underscored she is proud to share this ticket with James Talarico, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, who is polling very strongly with Election Day looming.
“If we win together, we can do something Texas hasn’t seen in a long time. We can build real power to lower costs, protect public schools, and stop Republicans from using our state as their personal piggy bank,” Hinojosa said.
Talarico is an eighth-generation Texan and a former middle school teacher who flipped a Trump district, she noted.
“He’s been standing beside me in Austin, fighting the billionaire mega-donors who have bought our state legislature and turned it against working people,” she said. “Now he’s ready to take that fight to Washington. The reality is that the biggest threat we face isn’t each other — it’s the people at the very top who spend billions to keep us angry and divided.”
Gov. Greg Abbott weighs in on Texas races
Incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott took to Fox News to weigh in on other key Texas races, taking aim at Democrat James Talarico and his bid for the U.S. Senate.
In a social media post on Monday, May 4, Abbott shared a portion of his interview on Fox News, in which he decried what he called Talarico’s “far-left agenda” for Texas.
“The main thing that comes down to the end of a political race is contrast,” Abbott said. “Right now, it’s Republican versus Republican and they haven’t taken the time to contrast themselves. When the public finally learns about the far-leftist votes Talarico has taken, he will be trampled.”
Currently, Sen. John Cornyn, R-TX, and Texas Attorney General John Paxton are locked in a runoff, with Talarico already running in the November General Election.
