If you’re looking to head out on the water, here is this week’s Texas Parks & Wildlife fishing report for parts of the Gulf Coast of Texas.
Corpus Christi: GOOD. 80 degrees. Low tides and high winds. Redfish are biting on cut mullet. Black drum schools are in full effect biting dead shrimp. The wind has limited fishing for trout. Report by Captain Aerich Oliver, Rockport Paradise Outfitters.
Port Aransas: GOOD. 80 degrees. Red snapper season has opened up and the bite is great on squid cigar minnows and live perch. Redfish are good on live shrimp finger mullet and shad on the north and south jetty. Oversized redfish are great on cut crab and mullet. Trout are great with croaker and shrimp free lined along rocks. Redfish and trout have been great in surf using croaker and live shrimp. Sharks have been caught in the surf using mullet, jacks and stingray. Report by Captain Kenny Kramer, Kramer Fishing Charters.
Rockport: GOOD. 80 degrees. Trout are great on live shrimp, piggy perch and croaker in flats and along channels. Redfish are fair on shrimp, mullet, pin perch and menhaden in sand pockets and along mangroves. Black drum are fair on live or dead shrimp and fish bites. Report by Captain Kenny Kramer, Kramer Fishing Charters.
Baffin Bay: GOOD. 83 degrees. Still howling winds, but moderate winds are in the forecast. The fishing has been stellar this week for big, trophy trout with many, many fish caught in the 5-9 pound range. Shorelines with grass strips and lots of bait has been the recipe for the biggest trout, still lurking and perhaps still spawning. Fluke style 5-6 inch baits in pothole pimp, watermelon red and nuke juice have been working great in slightly off-colored water and when skies are darker. Sunny days and clearer water, choose lighter, more natural colors. Report by Captain Sally Black. Conditions will be great this week on Baffin Bay. We are expecting some low pressure midweek which could bring some cooler air temperatures and hopefully some rainfall. If trophy trout is on your bucket list, conditions are favorable for catching one this week. Water levels have risen due to the low pressure experienced early this week and with the current moon phase. Areas to focus on can be up shallow early in the morning, knee deep around grass lines, grass and scattered pot holes or shallow to nearby deep water access. These are all great structures to find speckled trout as well as other species like redfish and drum. Topwater bite is active in the morning, switching mid to late morning to twitch bait or imitation shad. The best colors have been red-brown colors with gold, silver or red glitter. Always prioritize safety and courtesy when out on the waterways. As always, tight lines. Report by Captain Reanna DeLaCruz, Captain Reanna’s Baffin Bay Adventures.
Port Mansfield: GOOD. 78 degrees. Fishing is still good for most anglers fishing deeper water with Ball Tails and Wigalo’s. Trout are holding in about 3-5 feet of water along with scattered redfish. There are a few pods of redfish shallow early in the morning, but as the day progresses fish move a little deeper. In the early mornings we are getting a few big trout shallow on Mansfield Knockers along with those redfish. Winds are still blowing pretty good most days. Hoping for calmer conditions as we move later into June. Report by Captain Wayne Davis, Hook Down Charters.
South Padre: GOOD. 85 degrees. Trout and redfish are mixed on the Gas Well Flats and north of Unnecessary Island. Schools of black drum on the Eastside. Redfish and sheepshead are good at the end of jetties. Mangrove snapper are excellent at the end of Brownsville Channel. Stay safe out there. Report by Captain Lou Austin.
Port O’Connor: GOOD. 82 degrees. Windy week has made for great conditions to catch hardhead catfish. Trout can be caught near Alcatraz Island, and the outside of the jetties when the winds allow. Jack crevalle and bull redfish are schooling on the surface between the jetties and Bird Island early morning during the incoming tide with blue crab or Spanish Sardines. Keeper black drum in the apron of the jetties. Slot redfish are biting inside both the jetties within the first 100-feet with blue crab of Spanish sardines. Sharks are biting in both jetties and mixed in with the bull redfish near Bird Island on cut jack crevalle and skipjack. Report by Captain Marty Medford, Captain Marty’s Fish of a Lifetime Guide Service.
