Former Rockets head coach and basketball Hall of Famer passes away at 79

It was announced Monday evening that former Hall of Fame basketball coach Rick Adelman passed away at 79 years old. Adelman was most well-known for his time with the Portland Trail Blazers, winning the Western Conference twice along with Blazers star Clyde Drexler.

That said, Adelman also spent four seasons coaching the Houston Rockets from 2007-2011. During that span, Adelman coached Rockets’ legends Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming, leading Houston to a 193-135 record (.588 win percentage) in 328 games. Adelman also had a six-year playing career in the NBA, a former seventh round selection (79th overall) by the franchise in the 1968 NBA Draft. At that time, the team was known as the San Diego Rockets. Adelman’s son, David Adelman is the current head coach of the Denver Nuggets.
