One of the best kickers in the NFL has reached a significant career milestone. On Tuesday, former Longhorn star Cameron Dicker was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career. During his time with the Chargers, Dicker has been a points machine, and now he will get to shine on one of the NFL’s biggest stages.
In 15 games this season, the 25-year-old has made 36 of his 38 field goal attempts. From under 50 yards, Dicker has been nearly perfect, making 31 of his 32 kicks. He has also added 141 points to his resume, the second-most in his career. With only two games left in the regular season, Dicker is on pace to set a new career high.
As Dicker has been a model of consistency, he has also etched his name into the record books. The Hong Kong native recorded a 94.1 success rate in his first 100 kicks of his career, which is the highest percentage in NFL history. The NFL star passed a former Longhorn in Justin Tucker, who had an 89.1 percent through his first 101 kicks. That is not bad company to be in.
While Dicker has become one of the best at his position, his approach has stayed the same. That has stood out to those who see the work that goes on behind the scenes, such as Chargers Special Teams Coordinator Ryan Ficken.
“I mean, we’ll watch the TV copy of his kicks, and he just has a big smile on his face going out there,” Ficken told NFL.com. “It doesn’t matter if it’s a game-winning kick or a PAT, his approach on every kick is the same.
Although the Pro Bowl is still a few weeks away, Longhorns now have extra motivation to tune in as Dicker will get to take in an unforgettable experience.
