A busy offseason for Longhorns baseball continued on Tuesday as Texas made another addition through the transfer portal. They bolstered their roster by adding former Campbell OF/P Carlos Lugo. The rising sophomore is coming off an impressive 2026 campaign and will now look to make a name for himself in the SEC.
During his only season at Campbell, Lugo was a hit machine, posting a .370 batting average in 47 games. He also showed some power, as 19 of his 70 hits went for extra bases. Regardless of who was on the mound, the Florida native found a way to make an impact while driving in 34 runs.
While Lugo thrived at the plate, he also got some work out of the Fighting Camel bullpen. In 6.2 innings, the newest Longhorn posted a 4.05 ERA and struck out seven batters. He only allowed three earned runs and held opponents to a .208 batting average. For a small sample size, those are not bad numbers. ‘
When Campbell sets foot on campus, he will not be the only one starting a new chapter of his baseball career. The Longhorns transfer additions include Linkin Garcia, Ian Armstrong, Payton Brennan, Gavin King, Sawyer Solitaria, and Trevor Goldenetz. That group will be tasked with helping Texas end its national title drought.
In Lugo, Texas, is getting a player who recently added to his trophy case. Due to his play during the 2026 season, the Calvary Christian Academy Alum was named first-team All-Conference and earned All-Rookie honors. That is partly why he was a popular player in the portal.
Now his focus will be on continuing to improve his game while taking on more advanced competition.
