The Eastwood Troopers defeated El Paso’s No. 1-ranked team, Franklin, 49-26, in a key District 1-6A showdown at Franklin High School.
The Troopers never trailed and led 35-14 at the half behind four touchdown passes by quarterback Kingston Jeffries.
Eastwood improves to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in district. Franklin falls to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in district.
Franklin senior running back Ernie Powers scored four touchdowns, giving him 38 for the season. Powers now owns the El Paso city record for all-time rushing scores in a season.
Franklin takes on Socorro and Eastwood takes on Pebble Hills in district play on Friday, Oct. 17.
