ANDREWS – For the second straight year, the Americas High School boys soccer team won the Class 5A, Division 1 championship.
On Tuesday afternoon at Andrews High School, the Trailblazers dominated Aledo, 6-1, for their fourth playoff win of the postseason.
Americas is 22-2 on the season and will play in a Final Four game on Thursday, April 2, Friday, April 3 or Saturday, April 4.
Americas defeated El Dorado in last year’s regional title game.
How did Americas get it done?
The Trailblazers were efficient on offense, passed the ball well and were solid on defense. In four playoff wins, Americas has allowed just two goals.
Mathias Loya was strong in Tuesday’s win with three goals, his second game of the year with three goals.
Daniel Escobar, Alexis Martinez and Ian Alsina added goals for the Trailblazers, who scored four of their goals in the second half. Gael Perez had two assists, while Giovanni Hernandez and Andree Salazar had one assist apiece.
What did Americas coach Jair Olivares say?
“We fought so hard and our team has really played with focus and energy,” Olivares said. “Our offense was great today; we executed and played well as a team. This team has been great to coach.”
What Americas soccer players Daniel Escobar and Mathias Loya said
“I’m proud of this team. We played how we always do,” Loya said. “It’s been an amazing journey and been amazing to be a part of this culture. We take it one game at a time.”
Added Escobar: “We knew it was gonna be a hard game, but we fought through. Mathias plays the ball well and finds options to score.”
