El Paso police investigate fatal Dyer Street pedestrian crash

A 79-year-old man died after being struck by a car as he attempted to cross Dyer Street in Central El Paso, authorities said.

Lorenzo Sanchez of El Paso was crossing the street about 10:40 p.m. on Friday, July 10, in the 4600 block of Dyer Street when he was struck by a 2017 Cadillac XT5, El Paso Police Department spokesman Officer Adrian Cisneros said in a news release.

The Cadillac was being driven on the southbound lanes by a 50-year-old El Paso man when Sanchez was struck. Sanchez was taken to a hospital, where he later died, the news release states.

Police believe the contributing factor in the fatal crash was Sanchez crossing in a non-designated area for pedestrians, the news release states. The El Paso Police Department’s Special Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.

This is the 26th traffic-related death in the El Paso city limits in 2026, compared to 33 this same time last year.
