A man shot by El Paso police officers during an alleged domestic violence incident was released from the hospital and booked into the county jail, authorities said.
Victor Enrique Mariscal, 32, was booked into the El Paso County Jail on Wednesday, July 2, in connection with one count each of aggravated assault against a public servant, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and assault causing bodily injury involving family violence, El Paso Police Department spokesperson Stephanie Shields wrote in a news release.
Mariscal was arrested in connection with a June 14 domestic violence incident at a home in a trailer park in the 9500 block of North Loop Drive in El Paso’s Lower Valley.
No attorney is listed in court records for Mariscal. Court documents detailing the allegations against Mariscal were not immediately available.
Police alleged Mariscal confronted officers with knives
Officers responded to a call of family violence in progress at the home about 7:30 p.m. The officers entered the home and allegedly found Mariscal holding knives in each of his hands. Mariscal confronted an unnamed family member and two officers, the news release states.
Mariscal allegedly ignored police commands. Officers deployed a Taser on Mariscal and fired their guns at him, the news release states. He was shot by one of the officers.
He was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries. No details have been released on the injuries suffered by Mariscal.
He was released from the hospital and booked into the El Paso County Jail on Wednesday, July 2. He is being held on a bond totaling $185,000, jail records show. He remains jailed as of Thursday, July 3.
The officer who shot Mariscal has been with the El Paso Police Department for eight months. The other officer has been with the department for seven years. The officers’ names have not been released as police continue to investigate the shooting.
The shooting is being investigated by the El Paso Police Department and the Texas Rangers.
