Cowboys Headlines: The conversation that sold Von Miller; how soon until he plays?

News that the Cowboys were signing of future Hall of Famer Von Miller shook up the NFC landscape and dominated Monday’s headlines, with many wondering if the eight-time Pro Bowler is the missing piece that could finally help Dallas get over the proverbial hump. The move had been rumored for months, so what finally got the deal done? Apparently Stephen Jones came right out and compared Miller to DeMarcus Ware, the onetime Cowboy who capped his career in Denver (alongside Miller) with a Super Bowl win. Why not, Jones suggested to Miller, do it in reverse?

Miller is expected to report to Oxnard, but it’s unlikely he’ll see any action in the remaining practices there. He’s got some ramping up to do, but the team hopes to have him ready to roll by Week 1. We’ll unpack the big-time roster add from every angle, including whose roster spot may now be in jeopardy… and who has already lost theirs to make room. Also, who was the not-so-secret insider lobbying hardest inside the Cowboys braintrust to bring Miller aboard? And could the Cowboys be… not done adding star power???

Finally, remember all those dramatic improvements made at AT&T Stadium for the FIFA World Cup this summer? Get ready to help pay for them this fall with painful price increases during Cowboys home games.

Checking in with other teams, the Giants’ Malik Nabers reached a milestone on Monday by working out with the team again. That’s a huge step toward possibly being cleared to play the season opener versus Dallas. Not so lucky for Cardinals running back Jeremiyah Love this coming weekend, though; he’ll miss time with a high ankle sprain.

Elsewhere in league news, one NFL insider finds a new home, while one of the big network-broadcast partners decides to get out of the insider business altogether; that curious development has Mike Florio wondering why. The Bills continue to look at their new stadium through rose-colored glasses, and the Ravens bid farewell to a Super Bowl hero after a lengthy fight with ALS.
