Holiday countdown in El Paso: Lights, parades, movies, more

El Paso will have lots of holiday spirit this season with lots of fun events, some for the whole family and some just for adults.

No matter what day of December, if you want to get out and enjoy a holiday event, you can find a fun thing to do.

The month of December will offer everything from decorating cookies and visiting with Santa to skating on ice and enjoying the Winter Wonderland at La Nube.

Monday, Dec. 1

Skating at The Rink: The Rink is now in session at the El Paso convention center plaza. General Admission is $12, including a pair of skates. Guests can also enjoy season passes, group rates and special event packages available at EPWinterFest.com.

This season, The Rink at WinterFest will feature a fun lineup of special events, promo nights and themed nights. Those are:

Tuesday, Dec. 2

La Nube’s Winter Wonderland: For its first Christmas in Downtown El Paso, La Nube is turning parts of the science museum into a Winter Wonderland. It will run during operation hours through Jan. 4.

Activities include Santa photos from noon to 3 p.m., a Let it Snow Winter Forest on the second-floor terrace and holiday experiments at the Fab Lab. The activities are included in the general admission. For more information, la-nube.org

Hotel Paso del Norte Movie Nights: The Hotel Paso del Norte will feature Movie Nights on the El Mirador rooftop. The first movie will be “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2. Guests are encouraged to wear their ugly Christmas sweaters and toast with eggnog.

Meet the Grinch: The Applebee’s restaurant at 12271 Eastlake Blvd. will have Pictures with the Grinch at various times throughout December. Visit from 4 to 9 p.m. $5 photo donation, $1 hot chocolate.

Friday, Dec. 5

A Christmas Fantasia: The El Paso Symphony Orchestra will present A Christmas Fantasia at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5-6 at the Plaza Theatre. The concerts will showcase beloved holiday songs. Tickets are on sale and can be purchased at epso.org, Ticketmaster.com, or by calling the EPSO office (915) 532-3776. Prices are $49, $44, $37, $23, and $17 plus fees.  Student tickets are available for $9 and $12 plus fees.

Sunland Park Christmas Parade and Tree lighting: The Christmas Tree Lighting and parade in Sunland Park will start at 5 p.m., with the parade, followed by festivities at 6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 5, at 1000 McNutt Road. The parade will go up Futurity Drive and turn right on Anapra Road.

Texas Tech campus lighting: Texas Tech University Health Services will have its 3rd Annual Lighting of Campus for Hope at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at 5001 El Paso Drive. The event will include family-friendly activities, seasonal cheer, and a fireworks show.

Holiday Fiestas: Pointe Homes will present free live entertainment from 6 to 10 p.m. every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at San Jacinto Plaza throughout the Winter Fest season through Jan. 4.

Each weekend, family-friendly performances and concerts will light up the stage in front of the Lagartos Public Art Sculpture at San Jacinto Plaza.

Holidazzle: Abundant Church invites the community to its Holidazzle Christmas Market and special service from 5 to 9 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Abundant East Campus. The annual free celebration starts a month of meaningful outreach as part of the Heart of Abundant campaign continues with toy giveaways, community support and festive family gatherings.

The Holidazzle Christmas Market will feature a festive shopping experience with over 50 local vendors, hot cocoa, dazzling Christmas lights, free gifts and free custom ornaments, and an encouraging special holiday message (7 p.m.) from Shannon Nieman, founder of One Sisterhood and Lead Pastor of Abundant Church. 2020 Winter Market: The Ysleta Sur del Pueblo will have its 2025 Winter Market from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at 305 Yaya Lane. The two-day market will feature native jewelry artwork, guest performances and food vendors. Information: 915-859-7700.

The Nutcracker: El Paso Theatre Ballet presents “The Nutcracker” at UTEP Magoffin Auditorium. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5; 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6; and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7. Tickets now on sale at Ticketmaster.

Saturday, Dec. 6

Christmas Lights Show: Fred Loya is celebrating 20 years of his holiday lights show for the El Paso community. The El Paso Christmas Lights start from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at 12001 Paseo de Oro Lane. Shows are at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. Guests can enjoy hot chocolate and cookies. Fun activities at Crosspoint Church, and parking available at Montwood High School.

The free shows will continue on the following Saturdays: Dec. 6, 13 and 20.

Hotel Paso del Norte tree lighting: Hotel Paso Del Norte invites the community to celebrate the holiday season at its 3rd Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6.

Guests will enjoy a variety of holiday-themed activities, including cookie decorating, a Mexican hot chocolate stand, s’mores, and more. A gingerbread storybook entrance to Dulce — the popular pastry, coffee, and gelato shop — makes the atmosphere festive.

The evening will begin with a mini-Santa parade led by the El Paso Fire Department. Santa Claus will arrive in style aboard a ladder fire truck to help light the beautiful Christmas tree, while a local school choir will perform holiday carols during the ceremony. Attendees will have the opportunity to take photos with Santa afterward.

In keeping with the spirit of giving, Hotel Paso Del Norte will make a $5,000 donation to the El Paso Sheriff’s Department “Santa with a Badge” Toy Drive and will present a check at the ceremony.

The Nutcracker: El Paso Theatre Ballet presents “The Nutcracker” at UTEP Magoffin Auditorium. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6. Tickets now on sale at Ticketmaster.

Lights on the Lake: The El Paso County Parks & Recreation will bring the Lights on the Lake back at Ascarate Park, 6900 Delta Drive, between 6 and 10 p.m. nightly from Dec. 6 through Jan. 24. The opening night lighting ceremony will be Saturday, Dec. 6. The event will include a Canine Pawrade at 5 p.m. Guests are invited to dress up their dogs in holiday attire and participate in a fun, family-friendly parade. (All pets must remain leashed.) The flipping of the switch will be at 6 p.m., followed by a drone light show and a visit from Santa Claus. Live music and food trucks as well.

Verdi Academy of Dance: Who Stole Christmas?: The Verdi Academy of Dance will present Who Stole Christmas at 12 and 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Abraham Chavez Theatre. Tickets are $31 and $32 plus fees, available at Ticketmaster.com

Ambar hosts Brunch with Santa: Ambar Restaurant will offer a holiday brunch with Santa and The Grinch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 20-21 at the Plaza Hotel, 106 W Mills Ave. El Paso. Seats are limited, so book your table early. There will be a cookie-making table for kids. Cost for 13 and up, $50, kids ages 6-12 $25. Make reservations online.

Navidad De La Fe Luminarias: In its 31st annual tradition, Centro De Salud Familiar La Fe will have its setup of 4,000 luminarias along Scenic Drive from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20. Santa Claus, a live nativity scene, and a donation drop-off site for canned goods will be at the top of Scenic Drive.

The event is free and open to the public. Beginning at 6 p.m., vehicles can enter Scenic Drive at Richmond Avenue (East Side of the mountain). Traffic will head westbound on Scenic Drive in a single lane. Drivers are asked to dim their vehicle’s lights and proceed slowly and cautiously along the event route. Vehicles will exit Scenic Drive at Rim Road.

Erica Lane: Here We Come A Caroling: Singer Erica Lane will perform in El Paso as part of her Christmas tour at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20 at Plaza Theatre. Tickets range from $40 to $56, available at Ticketmaster.com.

Holiday Movies at the Plaza: The Holiday Movies at the Plaza Theatre, which are free, continue as part of the city’s El Paso WinterFest, will begin with 30 minutes of Wyler Mighty Wurlitzer pipe organ music. On Dec. 21, the films are “The Polar Express” at 3 p.m., and “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas” at 6 p.m.

Skating at The Rink: The Rink is now in session at the El Paso convention center plaza. General Admission is $12, including a pair of skates. Guests can also enjoy season passes, group rates and special event packages available at EPWinterFest.com

Ambar hosts Brunch with Santa: Ambar Restaurant will offer a holiday brunch with Santa and The Grinch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 20-21 at the Plaza Hotel, xx. Seats are limited, so book your table early. There will be a cookie-making table for kids. Cost for 13 and up: $50; kids ages 6-12: $25. Make reservations online.

Hal Marcus Gallery Pop-up: The Hal Marcus Gallery will open a Pop Up Holiday Shopping event from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21 at 1308 N. Oregon St. and the Sunset Parlor, 1307 N. Oregon St.

Monday, Dec. 22

Skating at The Rink: Mommy & Me Mondays: Kids 10 and under skate for $5. The Rink is now in session at the El Paso convention center plaza.

Tuesday, Dec. 23

Hotel Paso del Norte Movie Nights: The Hotel Paso del Norte will feature Movie Nights on the El Mirador rooftop. On Dec. 23, the film will be “Little Women” at 8 p.m. It will be a Sisters and Trivia Night. Gather your sisters, friends, and fellow fans for an evening celebrating love, family, and resilience.

“Nutcracker”: The Magical Christmas Ballet’s international ensemble performances will be at 3 and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, and at noon Wednesday, Dec. 24, at the Plaza Theatre. Tickets are $38 to $168 plus fees, available at Ticketmaster.com.

Wednesday, Dec. 24

Eastridge neighborhood lights: The Eastridge neighborhood is a great place to wind down the holiday before the jolly ol’ guy comes down the chimney. The neighborhood has three entrances: McRae Boulevard at Cartway Lane, Deby Lewis Drive at Glemmway Place — right behind Eastwood High School — and Wedgewood at Fenway drives.

Peak times are weekends, usually from 6:30 to 9 p.m. If you want to walk, park on Deby Lewis Drive and stroll through the neighborhood. If you see cars driving down the middle of the street with their lights flashing or on, they probably live in the area and are trying to get home. Please give them the space.

Skating at The Rink: Wacky Wednesdays: Wear your favorite wacky Christmas or holiday gear and get $2 off. The Rink is now in session at the El Paso convention center plaza. Hours will be 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24.
