Corpus Christi lost several restaurants in 2025.
From two locations of a popular fast food chain to a local taco spot, the city had to say goodbye to at least 10 eateries. Three spots even rebranded this year, changing their aesthetic and menu.
Here are the restaurants we know of that shuttered their doors this year.
Agave Jalisco
5922 S. Staples St.
According to a Facebook post from the Corpus Christi Police Department, a fire erupted at the Mexican restaurant on Christmas Day in 2024. The restaurant then had signs informing the public it would be opening soon, but it closed its doors for good in 2025.
Ara’s Seafood & Steaks
6917 S. Staples St.
After suffering pain from a vehicular crash in 2022, owner Ara Babos said in a now-deleted comment on Facebook that her “body is unable to keep up.” The restaurant closed in June 2025.
The Astor
5533 Leopard St.
The Astor, established in 1957, was another victim to a fire in early 2025. A fire sparked in March 2025, causing the local steakhouse to close it doors indefinitely. As of December 2025, an update for a renovated restaurant has not been announced.
Chacho’s Tacos
3700 Ayers St.
After 24 years, Chacho’s Tacos closed in May 2025. The popular taco spot was known for its 15-inch and 3-pound Almighty Chacho’s Taco, which was full of bacon, eggs, potatoes, beans, carne guisada and cheese.
Jack in the Box
1238 Waldron Road, 1502 Airline Road
Jack in the Box first came to Corpus Christi in 2007, with multiple locations opening up soon afterward. But in 2025, two locations shut their doors for good, the Flour Bluff site and the first fast food spot on Airline Road.
Joe’s Crab Shack
5025 S. Padre Island Drive
Joe’s Crab Shack on South Padre Island Drive closed its doors in January 2025 before reopening as Landry’s Kitchen in May 2025. The former seafood restaurant was known for its crab buckets, dancing servers and giant shark that hung from its ceiling.
Noodles and Dumplings
6505 Everhart Road
In July 2025, Noodles and Dumplings closed and rebranded as Southside Dumpling Haus in September 2025. The restaurant is described as a modern Chinese kitchen serving up bold flavors and comforting classics.
Pretty One Cake Co.
6702 S. Staples St.
This local bakery shut its doors in February 2025. In a Facebook post, owner Juliana Besinaiz-Rossum said the decision was set “due to a series of setbacks and with a focus on prioritizing my mental and physical well-being.”
Razzoo’s Cajun Cafe
4953 S. Staples St.
Razzoo’s Cajun Cafe opened its doors in October 2021 and shut them in September 2025. The chain restaurant filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in October 2025.
Takeniwa
5216 S. Padre Island Drive
Takeniwa closed its doors in early 2025, but new signage recently appeared with the name Osaki. The only social media account for the new restaurant is on Instagram at instagram.com/osaki_asian_cuisine, but not much is known about the new eatery and when it is set to open.
