Over 50,000 fans flocked to Sun Bowl Stadium as Coldplay’s “Music of Spheres” tour touched down in El Paso.
The band is set for a two-night stand in El Paso, which kicked off Friday, June 13, with an explosive performance from the British rock band that has become one of the best-selling acts in history.
The band is currently promoting two albums — “Music of the Spheres” and “Moon Music” — with a world tour that began on March 18 in Costa Rica and is set to conclude on September 8 in London. The tour will consist of 225 performances in 80 cities across 43 countries.
Fans traveled from as far as Chihuahua, Corpus Christi, Louisiana, and Edinburg to witness the spectacle at the Sun Bowl.
Lines snaked through the parking lot and past the Sun Bowl Drive roundabout, with crowds still entering just before the band hit the stage at 9:10 p.m., and many had been waiting since 1 p.m.
Opening acts included singer-songwriter Willow, daughter of Will and Jada Smith; Elyanna, a Palestinian-Chilean artist known for fusing Arabic and Latin sounds; and El Paso’s own Jim Ward, who performed a stripped-down solo set.
The tour also features Coldplay’s signature sustainability efforts, including interactive “energy zones” like a kinetic dance floor with 44 tiles that convert movement into electricity, and stationary bikes that generate renewable energy to help power the stage.
Fans also receive LED wristbands that light up in sync with the music, creating a vibrant, immersive experience.
The band’s performance at Sun Bowl Stadium was yet another in a long line of spectacles for Coldplay, which has gained a reputation for its grandiose live shows. From fireworks to a themed setlist, the band did not disappoint its fans in El Paso.
