Big Ten school flips Texas Tech edge commit

On a day when the Texas Tech Red Raiders received a commitment from one of their top targets, they lost one of their longest tenured commits. Three-star edge Brody Pfannenstiel flipped his commitment to the Wisconsin Badgers, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Pfannenstiel committed to Texas Tech on March 13, doing so shortly after he received a scholarship offer and took an unofficial visit to Lubbock. The Badgers never stopped recruiting the Hoisington, Kansas, native and hosted him on an official visit on June 5.

The Red Raiders survived the initial visit and hosted him on an official visit of their own this past weekend, but Wisconsin was ultimately able to get it done. He is Texas Tech’s third decommitment in the 2027 recruiting cycle.

He is ranked as the No. 523 overall player and No. 55 edge in the Rivals industry ranking. He is also the No. 4 player from Kansas.

While his flip stings for Texas Tech, they still have one of the best recruiting classes in the country and should be able to survive the loss. Rivals now ranks their 2027 recruiting class as the 8th best in the country, and it is still the best in the Big 12.

They are also doing a great job along the defensive line, where five of their 14 commits are expected to play at the collegiate level. Five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster and five-star edge Anthony Sweeney headline the class.
