'Catastrophic' flooding devastates Kerrville, Texas: How to help and where to get help

A day after flooding rains rapidly overwhelmed the Guadalupe River and sent deadly floodwaters through a swath of central Texas, authorities said hundreds of people had been saved from the danger but many remained missing – and the death toll continued to rise, USA TODAY reported.

At least 43 people were killed – 28 adults and 15 children, Sheriff Larry Leitha said.

An additional 27 children who were at Camp Mystic in western Kerr County are still missing.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing as more storms threaten the region, with up to 10 additional inches of rain forecast Saturday. So far, more than 850 rescues have taken place amid the Central Texas floods.
