2026 marks a century of national commemorations of Black history. Throughout February, organizations honor and celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of Black Americans to this country.
During Black History Month, El Paso will have a variety of events, including community celebrations that offer a chance to reflect on the city’s Black history.
Here are some events to attend.
Downtown Visitor Center hosts Black History Month
The Downtown Visitor Center will have speakers from 2 to 4 p.m. Sundays at the Downtown Visitor Center, One Civic Center Plaza. Gabriella Reed, from the El Paso Branch NAACP, will speak on Feb. 15. Bill Morgan, from the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club, will speak on Feb. 22.
Black Excellence event
A Black History Month program by Black Excellence El Paso, celebrating the legacy, achievements and impact of El Paso’s Black community, will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, at the Cortez Ballroom, 310 N. Mesa St.
The event will feature guest speakers, community awards, cultural performances and recognition of local leaders, entrepreneurs and creatives, along with food vendors and community resources. Cost is $40.Information: Keyscha Banks, 915-239-6272.
Mini Black Book Fair and artist celebration
A Black History Month event celebrating Black authors, artists and storytellers in El Paso will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at El Paso Community College Administrative Services Center, 9050 Viscount Blvd.
The event will include a mini book fair, live performances and multi-generational storytelling, along with children’s book giveaways connected to national Black Children’s Book Week initiatives. Cost: $5. Information: blackelpasovoice.com
