The fireworks that flew through the night sky in Bryan-College Station following Texas A&M’s 11-9 win over Mississippi State were a perfect depiction of Friday night’s contest between the two SEC juggernauts.
Michael Earley’s club bounced back after an 18-11 loss in the series opener by recording 15 hits, including three home runs, and 11 RBIs against one of the top pitching staffs in the conference. It was led by outfielder Caden Sorrell, who recorded six RBIs and was one single shy of hitting for the cycle. Sorrell, Gavin Grahovac and Blake Binderup all secured home runs in the contest, while the Aggies’ pitching woes continued.
Aiden Sims has been Texas A&M’s Game 2 starter, but he was absent from the weekend rotation due to tightness. That meant Weston Moss got the start on Friday, as he secured four strikeouts and allowed three earned runs on four hits across two innings. Shane Sdao entered the game to replace Moss, striking out three and allowing five runs on six hits, before Clayton Freshcorn closed things out with an impressive five strikeouts and just two hits allowed in the win.
The Aggies return to Blue Bell Park tomorrow with an opportunity to take the series over Mississippi State. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT and the contest will be broadcast live on the SEC Network.
