Americas HS baseball team is lone El Paso team left in UIL playoffs

The Americas High School baseball team is the lone El Paso program remaining in the 2026 Texas UIL playoffs.

The Trailblazers will face the Birdville Hawks in the Class 5A, Division 1 regional semifinal with a spot in the regional finals on the line. The other regional semifinal pits Aledo vs. Amarillo High School.

Schedule for Americas vs. Birdville

At Odessa Permian HS. Game 1, 5 p.m. MT/6 p.m. CT, Thursday, May 14; Game 2 11 a.m. MT/noon CT Friday, May 15 Game 3, 30 minutes after Game 2 if needed.

How Americas reached regional semifinals

The District 2-5A champion Trailblazers defeated El Paso High in two games in the bidistrict round and Abilene High in three games in the area round to earn their trip to the regional semifinals.

Americas is making its second consecutive appearance in the regional semifinals in Class 5A. Last year, Colleyville Heritage defeated Americas in three games.

How did Birdville reach the regional semifinals

The Hawks defeated Granbury and Centennial in the first two rounds of the state playoffs. Both of those series went three games.

What Americas baseball coach Jesse Munoz said

“I was proud of our guys last week, we had to come back last week and win two games from Abilene High,” Munoz said. “We got good pitching and Drew was outstanding at the plate. Throughout the season, our team has grown and developed good chemistry.”

What Americas baseball players Drew Gonzalez and Cortez De La Fuente said

“Our team is strong, our hard work is paying off and different people are stepping up at key times,” Gonzalez said.

Added De La Fuente: “Our confidence as a team has come a long way. We’ve done some good things in the playoffs. It’s really been a team effort.”
