The top-ranked Coahoma softball team is headed back to the state championship game for the fourth year in a row where they will face off against Lexington at Red & Charlie McCombs in Austin at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 29.

The Bulldogettes are pursuing their third-straight state title after an unprecedented four years of dominance.

Here are four things to know before Coahoma’s state title game.

Undefeated streak

Before a 4-2 loss to No. 2 S&S Consolidated in the second game of the state semifinal series, the Bulldogettes were on a state record 91-game undefeated streak.

The 91-game streak started after Coahoma lost to Halletesville 6-5 in the 2022 state title game, including back-to-back state title games in 2023 and 2024.

The senior group of Hannah Wells, Neveah Kirby, Avery Rodriguez, Kaedyn Lee, and Mikela Vasquez is leading Coahoma through this era of dominance. During their four years of command in Class 3A, they collected a 135-9-1 record, making them one of the winningest classes in any UIL team sport.

The team also boasts an unprecedented 48-0 record in district play with four district championship trophies. Their postseason record of 35-2 also displays the program’s dominance.

History of winning

While the past four years have left an unprecedented mark on UIL softball, it is not Coahoma’s only era of dominant softball.

The Bulldogettes’ history of winning goes back to the late 90s and 2000s.

2025 marks Coahoma’s 14th appearance in the final four/state tournaments, according to the UIL archives. Here is every appearance and state title in their history.

2025, 2024 (state champion), 2023 (state champion), 2022 (runner-up), 2008 (runner-up), 2007, 2006, 2005, 2003 (runner-up), 2002, 2000, 1999 (runner-up), 1998 (state champion), 1996.

Texas prospects

Earlier in the Spring, both Wells and junior Mia Clemmer signed to play college softball with the University of Texas.

Wells, Coahoma’s ace pitcher, boasts a career 0.74 Earned Run Average in 93 appearances with a .962 winning percentage. She recently surpassed 800 career strikeouts and currently sits at 870 heading into her last game. She is also one of Coahoma’s best hitters with a career .591 batting average, hauling in a massive 252 RBIs on 238 hits with 85 home runs, including a season best 30 in 2025.

Clemmer is the Bulldogettes’ most prolific hitter this season with a .615 batting average and .711 on-base percentage.

For her career, Clemmer holds a .594 average with 165 RBIs on 168 hits and 54 home runs.

Matchup against Lexington

Coahoma comes into the matchup with a 34-1 record on the season, with their only loss coming against S&S Consolidated in the state semifinal.

The Bulldogettes have a team batting average of .460 with 324 RBIs and 79 home runs. On defense, they have only allowed 15 earned runs with a .124 batting average.

While Lexington’s numbers are not as jaw-dropping, they are still nothing to sneeze at.

The Eagles come into the state title game with a 27-8 record and hold a .344 batting average with 200 RBIs and 10 home runs. On defense, they have a 2.07 ERA while only giving up 63 earned runs and a .198 batting average.
