Three people have been arrested after a Lubbock County Sheriff’s deputy was shot at while driving Wednesday night, according the a sheriff’s office news release.
About 10 p.m. Wednesday, the deputy was driving in an unmarked vehicle in the area of 34th Street and Salem Avenue to search for a wanted person, who was not named in the release. The deputy was inside the vehicle when multiple people opened fire toward them. The deputy drove away, but multiple bullets pierced the vehicle and disabled it.
Law enforcement, including the sheriff’s office, the Department of Public Safety and Lubbock Police Department, arrived in the area. Officials detained four people and found four firearms. Three people were arrested, and the fourth was released.
The deputy was not injured, though one residence in the 4600 block of 33rd Street was hit by the gunfire, according to the release.
Jaime Flores, 26, was arrested on suspicion of three counts of unlawful carrying of a weapon, evading on foot, and tampering with evidence. Devin Hernandez, 19, was arrested on suspicion of deadly conduct, unlawful carrying of a weapon, evading on foot, and discharging a firearm in a municipality. Tamajhe Turner, 25, was arrested on suspicion of deadly conduct, evading on foot, possession of marijuana between 4oz and 5 lbs, two counts of unlawful carrying of a weapon, tampering with evidence, and discharging a firearm in a municipality.
The case remains an active investigation.
