Texas A&M’s 2026 recruiting class has been one of the hottest cycles throughout the summer. While Notre Dame and Georgia’s 2026 classes have overtaken the Aggies, rankings are meaningless at the end of the year, as the program has assembled an elite group of athletes who have future star potential.
One of the cycle’s potential new additions is set to announce his commitment on July 14, as 2026 four-star safety Tamarion Watkins is reportedly down to South Carolina and Texas A&M as the final two programs he will consider heading into the new month.
Watkins has been an Aggie target for quite some time, and despite the Gamecocks leading the way for the South Carolina native, Watkins feels that both programs would be an excellent fit for his versatile skill set, as the Aggies likely intend to use him at linebacker at the next level paired with his safety responsibilities.
“Now that I’ve had a great time at all of these places, I’ve narrowed it down. I’m focused on two”
Outside of his elite coverage ability, Watkins is a form tackler who isn’t afraid to make contact, especially in the box against the run. During his 2024 junior season, he recorded 75 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and three interceptions. Texas A&M’s safety future is in good hands, mainly due to the youth at the position, while Elko has done a solid job in the transfer portal when replenishing position groups.
Watkins may not be a five-star prospect who’s seen as an instant contributor. Still, his future is undoubtedly bright, and he should develop into a reliable defender for either defense.
