Following another exciting softball season in the Lone Star State, 12 players from the Texas Panhandle have been selected to the Texas Sports Writers Association All-State teams.
The Amarillo area had another strong season on the diamond, with at least one team in each classification from 1A to 5A making a deep playoff run. Booker, West Texas, Bushland, Muleshoe and Amarillo High all reached the regional semifinals, while River Road and Dumas advanced to the regional finals.
Clarendon made the deepest postseason run of any team from the Texas Panhandle, getting all the way to the state semifinals for the first time in school history.
As a result, the Amarillo area is well-represented on this year’s TSWA All-State teams.
In Class 5A, a pair of Lady Sandies were honored after helping the team to a second-place finish in District 3-5A and a strong postseason performance. Sophomore Mykaela Samuels was selected to the third team as a utility player, while senior catcher and Wayland Baptist signee Brianna Cloud received Honorable Mention recognition.
Dumas sophomore Yaritza Vargas was the Texas Panhandle’s only first-team all-state honoree for her efforts as an outfielder. Fellow Demonettes’ outfielder Vida Fierro was named second-team all-state.
Vargas and Fierro were joined on the Class 4A All-State team by teammates Star Cortes and Aaliyah Chairez, who received honorable mention selections at pitcher and catcher.
Two Randall standouts also earned TSWA All-State honors, as Landri Holcomb, a West Texas A&M signee, was selected to the second team as a catcher and the third team for her time at first base.
Outfielder Macy Swindell received honorable mention recognition after helping the Lady Raiders reach the postseason in her final season.
Muleshoe’s Heaven McMullen was the only Texas Panhandle player represented on the TSWA Class 3A All-State team, earning honorable mention recognition at first base.
In Class 2A, Clarendon pitcher Kennadie Cummins was named Second-Team All-State, while her twin sister, Tandie, was selected to the third team at shortstop.
Lady Broncos’ star catcher Hayden Elam earned honorable mention recognition after the trio helped Clarendon make history with an appearance in the state semifinals.
