The Sandusky County Fair has faced a mixed bag of weather since it began Aug. 18. But rain and mud did not keep fairgoers away.
On Aug. 23, the fairgrounds will host the popular Twisted Metal Demo Derby. Grandstands tickets are $10 and pit area tickets will be $15.
The day will also see the open class competition for rabbits and an open class halter and performance show for ponies, horses and burros.
The annual baby contest will be held at the Log Cabin beginning at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 23 as well. Babies will be clad in their best Disney attire for this year’s contest.
The fair wraps up Aug. 24 with a church service at 8:30 a.m. in Anderson Arena and the world draft horse and pony show.
There will also be a frypan throwing contest 1 p.m. Admission is free.
Activities earlier in the week included the Aug. 20 chicken, lamb, and calf scramble. Many youths showed their talents on a muddy field while chasing poultry, although many of them had trouble catching the birds. The sheep and calves required older youths to be talented in getting ropes and harnesses on the energetic livestock.
Music continues through the weekend with Haywire Band slated to perform at the Log Cabin Stage 6-9 p.m. Aug. 23 and a 1 p.m. karaoke final Aug. 24, also at the Log Cabin.
