It continued its nonconference schedule with a 70-0 rout of Grambling State on Sept. 6, dismantling the overmatched FCS program.

Since Ryan Day took over for Urban Meyer at the helm of the program, the Buckeyes have only once produced a more lopsided victory — a 76-5 win over Miami University in 2019. It was also the first time since 2022 that they totaled at least 70 points.

The scoring barrage and shutout did nothing to jeopardize the Buckeyes’ status as the nation’s top-ranked team. Below is their ranking in the major polls after Week 2:

US LBM Coaches Poll

Ohio State remained nearly the unanimous No. 1 pick in the coaches poll, receiving 62 out of the possible 67 first-place votes.

It was an even tighter grip than the previous week when the Buckeyes received 59 first-place votes from the coaches.

Penn State, which is No. 2 in the coaches poll, picked up four of the other five first-place votes with third-ranked LSU grabbing one.

AP Top 25

The Buckeyes also strengthened their hold on the No. 1 ranking in the AP poll, adding two more first-place votes.

They received 57 out of 66 first-place votes this week with second-ranked Penn State getting five, third-ranked LSU two and fourth-ranked Oregon one. Miami, which rounded out the top-five, did not receive any.
