The Ohio High School Athletic Association released its updated computer ratings for high school football teams Oct. 7, following Week 7 of the regular season. The top 12 teams in each region after the regular season qualify for the OHSAA playoffs, with the top four earning first-round byes, and seeds 5 through 8 earning home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
The OHSAA site includes an explanation of how the ratings are calculated. In short, teams collect points for each win they earn, and for each win earned by the teams they have beaten, with more points awarded for bigger schools on those schedules, from 6.5 for a Division I school to 3.5 for a Division VII opponent. The OHSAA calculated non-Ohio schools based on their school size.

Where do Southwest Ohio teams stand in Division I?
In Region 2, Middletown (6-1) moved back on top of the standings, and solidly in a bye position. Springboro (4-3) and Lebanon (5-2) are fighting to get a first-round home game in a tight region where the top 11 teams are over .500.
In Region 4, Elder has a solid lead in first place after beating Moeller last week and remaining the only undefeated team in the region. Moeller and St. Xavier, both 5-2, are second and third. Winton Woods (6-1) has a slight lead on Princeton (6-1) for fourth place and the last bye. Walnut Hills (2-5) and Western Hills (2-5) moved into the last two playoff spots.

In Region 8, Anderson continues to be the only unbeaten team in the group after beating Turpin. The Raptors have a big lead on 6-1 Kings. La Salle has the last bye in fourth place. Harrison, Turpin and Aiken are in the playoffs as of now, and Withrow, despite being 5-2, is in 13th and just outside the playoffs.

In Region 12, Badin and Talawanda are two of the five undefeated teams in the region. Badin is in third, in a solid bye position, and Talawanda is fifth. Based on this week’s numbers, McNicholas, Goshen and Wilmington are in the playoffs, with Wilmington on the bubble in 12th.
