The Massillon Museum’s 31st annual Island Party is planned from 6 to 10 p.m. July 18 in the heart of downtown Massillon. The free, family-friendly event will be a Caribbean- and Hawaiian-inspired evening under the stars.

Guests should bring friends and a blanket or chairs.

On the Island Party stage in Duncan Plaza (next to the museum), Carlos Jones+ will perform two sets of soulful roots reggae. Their lyrics concentrate on a message of peace and harmony within the human race and the environment. They create a festival-like atmosphere, drawing crowds spanning all ages and backgrounds.

The Jackson High School Steel Drum Band will perform from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Divine Harmony Performance Art will organize bubbles on the lawn, circulate through the party on tall stilts, and present fire manipulation and hula dancing.

Food trucks – Big Deal Whitfield, A Movable Feast Food Truck and Kona Ice – will offer an array of island favorites for sale. The cash bar will offer Jamaican Red Stripe, Paradigm Shift’s Island Juice, frozen margaritas, wine and soft drinks. Buehler’s Fresh Foods will provide complimentary water. Cash and credit cards will be accepted for beverages, memberships, Island Party T-shirts and party merchandise. No outside food, beverages or coolers may be brought into the party.

Hula hoops and limbo lines will challenge guests of all ages. Children can create paper plate turtles, have their faces painted, and spend a few minutes cooling in Gessner Hall.

The Island Party is MassMu’s thank you to the community for its continuing support. The gates – between the municipal parking lot and Duncan Plaza and near the corner of First Street SE and Lincoln Way – will open at 5:30 p.m. The event will proceed rain or shine. Call the museum at 330-833-4061 for more information and accessible drop-off details.
