Wayne County Community Youth Foundation funds beds, books, more

The Wayne County Community Youth Foundation awarded over $20,000 in grants to local organizations.

The Youth Foundation (WCCYF) aims to engage high school students in local philanthropy by providing educational experiences on how community foundations operate. Each year, students in the program evaluate grant proposals and award funds from the Wayne County Community Youth Foundation Fund to nonprofit organizations that support youth programs, according to an announcement.

For the 2025 grant cycle, student advises reviewed 16 proposals. Based on their recommendations, eight organizations received grants totaling $20,300.

The Youth Foundation meets monthly at various nonprofit organizations during the school year to learn about their missions and community impact. Participants gain leadership experience, learn about charitable giving, evaluate grant awards and meet local philanthropic leaders.

For the 2024-2025 school year, 25 students from nine high schools participated in the Youth Foundation.

Competitive grant applications to the WCCYF from nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations serving Wayne County youth must be submitted by Feb. 1 each year. Grant guidelines and the application are available at waynecountycommunityfoundation.org.
