Vote for the Stark County High School Athlete of the Week for April 13-19

It’s time to take a look at the standout high school performers from Stark County for the past week. 

Your vote will determine who will be the Stark County High School Athlete of the Week for April 13-19. We will pick one girl and one boy. Each athlete’s credentials are listed above the poll — which will be live until 5 p.m. Thursday. The winners will be announced Friday morning on CantonRep.com.

Now, let’s meet the candidates, who were selected by the Repository sports staff based on results submitted to the Rep.

Here’s a look at the girls nominees for Stark County Athlete of the Week, in alphabetical order: 

Madelyn Begert, Northwest track and field

Won the 800 (2:31.79) and 1,600 (5:34.53) at the Brian Armstrong Northwest Invitational.

Brooklyn Davis, Sandy Valley softball

Went 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs and four RBIs in a win over Hiland. 

Shelby Decker, Massillon softball

Went 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs in a win over Independence.

Nicole Hayes, Lake Center Christian track and field

Won the 100 (12.68) and 200 (26.12) at the Marlington Invitational.

Irelyn Johnson, Marlington track and field

Set a school record in winning 1,600 in 5:00.01 at the Marlington Invitational, helped lead the Dukes to the team title.

Katelynn Miller, Louisville softball

Pitched a three-hit shutout with eight strikeouts and one walk in a win over Triway, while driving in half of her team’s four runs. 

Olivia Renicker, GlenOak softball

Went 4-for-4 with a grand slam and five RBIs in a win over McKinley and went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs in a win over Hoover.  

Hailey Smith, Canton McKinley softball

Hit a grand slam and had five RBIs in a win over Lake Center Christian.

Here’s a look at the boys nominees for Stark County Athlete of the Week, in alphabetical order: 

Landon Davenport, Tuslaw baseball

Hit a three-run double in the top of the sixth inning in a 9-7 win over Cloverleaf.

Charles Ekey, Alliance baseball

Totaled three hits, including an RBI single in the bottom of the 10 inning to give Alliance a 3-2 win over Carrollton.

Cameron Evanich, Marlington track and field

Won the 100 (11.25), 400 (50.66) and long jump (21-6.25) at the Marlington Invitational.

Brody Folk, Jackson baseball

Went 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs in a win over GlenOak.

John Logsdon, North Canton Hoover baseball

Lifted Hoover to a 2-1 win over McKinley with a two-out, two-run single to drive in in the top of the seventh inning.

Colby Schrader, East Canton baseball

Went 4-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs in a win over Newcomerstown.

Caleb Shelly, Lake Center Christian baseball

Hit three homer runs in going 3-for-3 with four RBIs in a win over East Canton.

Xavier Woods, Marlington baseball

Hit a three-run double in the bottom of the sixth to give Marlington a 9-6 win over Green.
