Trump bashes 'bad Republicans,' including Rep. Warren Davidson

An Ohio congressman is among four GOP lawmakers whom President Donald Trump called “bad Republicans” after they voted to end the war in Iran.

Rep. Warren Davidson, whose district includes communities in Butler, Hamilton and other Ohio counties, supported a resolution on June 3 to assert the legislative branch’s war authority and block further hostilities in Iran. Davidson joined Democrats and three other Republicans, including Trump rival Rep. Thomas Massie, in the 215-208, mostly symbolic vote.

It was the first time the House of Representatives has voted to end the war in Iran, and came two weeks after a similar measure was advanced in the Senate.

Trump attacked the four Republicans who voted in support of the resolution, without naming them, on social media, marking the latest clast between Davidson and the president.

Trump: Republicans who voted to end Iran war ‘should be ashamed’

Trump posted about the vote the next morning on Truth Social.

“Yesterday, in a meaningless vote, the House voted, 4 bad Republicans and all of the Dumocrats, to limit my War Powers, right in the middle of my final negotiations to end the War with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the post read in part. “Who would do such an unpatriotic thing.”

The president said Democrats who voted in support of the resolution were “fueled by Trump Derangement Syndrome,” a term used by Trump supporters to dismiss the president’s critics as irrational.

Trump called the four Republicans “grandstanders” and said they “should be ashamed of themselves.”

Davidson: ‘The oath is to our Constitution’

Davidson also made social media remarks about the vote the morning of June 4, before Trump’s post.

“Many falsely claimed the War Powers Act empowers a president to wage any war for up to 90 days. That’s not true, but there are now new ways rationalize war in Iran,” he wrote on X. “What they still don’t have? Congressional authorization. The oath is to our Constitution. The moral obligation is to the men and women who wage our wars.”

Davidson also called on the White House to “Define the mission. Authorize the mission. Accomplish the mission.”

Davidson, up for reelection, has previously clashed with Trump

Trump endorsed Davidson, who ran unopposed in the May Republican primary, for reelection.

A West Point graduate, Davidson was an Army Ranger who as an officer, led the 75th Ranger Regiment, 101st Airborne Division and the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment, also called The Old Guard.

The congressman from Troy, who’s served since 2016, has often backed the president. Last year, he went as far as introducing a bill directing the National Institutes of Health to study the roots of “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

But this year, the two Republicans have butted heads multiple times.

Davidson was one of two Republicans who voted on March 5 to require congressional authorization for the Iran war. The House ultimately voted down that war powers resolution.

Before that vote, he posted on X that he does not support a regime-change war.

Earlier this year, Davidson also joined other lawmakers in criticizing former Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice’s handling of its investigation into Jeffrey Epstein.

In April, Davidson called an AI-generated picture that depicted Trump as a Jesus-like healer, shared by the president on social media, “madness” and “troubling.” Trump, who later deleted the image, confirmed he had posted it, but told reporters at the White House he thought it depicted himself as a doctor, not as Jesus.

In 2025, Davidson voted against Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill, but flipped his vote to “yes” after White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt suggested Trump would like to see him primaried, and after saying he spoke to Trump about the bill.

Davidson is running for reelection in Ohio’s 8th Congressional District ‒ a staunchly Republican area ‒ against Democrat Vanessa Enoch.
