The Stark County Golf Hall of Fame recently inducted three new members.
This year’s inductees are Tony Adcock, Foxy Golf and Ofer Golf. Here is a closer look at the Class of 2026.
Tony Adcock
Adcock learned to play golf at his family-owned Lakeview Golf Course and won many junior tournaments before his high school career. As a four-year letterman at Lake High School, he was named the 1984 Senate League Player of the Year, won a district title and finished 10th at the state tournament.
Adcock played four seasons at Malone University and was named the 1988 Mid-Ohio Conference Player of the Year. He turned pro after he graduated from Malone and won many Northern PGA events. He was named Northern Ohio Player of the Year and qualified for the national senior club pro championship.
Foxy Golf
Foxy Golf has been a supporter of Stark County golf and the Stark County Golf Hall of Fame for many years. It is the title sponsor of the Stark County Amateur Championship.
Foxy Golf is the title sponsor of The Stark County Amateur Championship and has been very generous with their support.
Founded in 1972 by Dan Verklas in his garage, where he repaired golf club, Foxy Golf currently has locations in Canton and Akron. It was purchased by Joe Durkin in 2002.
Ofer Golf
John Ofer and his wife Evelyn opened Ofer Golf in the old Ink Apple House building in Canton. The business’ roots shortly after Ofer returned home from World War II. He worked as a carpenter and refinished and repaired golf clubs in his garage on the side.
Ofer Golf built and repaired clubs for golfers in the area and around the country. Some of its well-known custimers included Bobby Nichols, Charlie Wipperman, Frank Beley, Chuck Rotar, Don Nist, Buzz Miller, George Bush Sr. and Bill Clinton .
Ofer invented the 3-1 driver, which was sold all over the world. Ofer Golf also sponsored the Stark County Amateur Golf Association Tournament of Champions year-end tournament and awarded the winner with a green Jacket.
