'That would definitely be special,' Penn State QB Drew Allar says of Browns drafting him

Current Penn State and former Medina quarterback Drew Allar admits that the prospect of the Cleveland Browns selecting him in next year’s NFL draft has crossed his mind.

Allar, who is expected to be a potential first-round selection, appeared on the “Ross Tucker Podcast,” revealing his family has a long history of fandom with the Browns.

“I mean, that would definitely be special because my parents, my dad, had season tickets growing up. They’ve been passed down since my great-grandfather, so (since) great-grandfather,” he told Tucker, who played for the Browns in the preseason of 2006.

“Yeah, so back in the, I think ‘50s or ‘60s is when my family first got the tickets in their name, so that would definitely be surreal just because I grew up going to every home game from the time I was 7-to-8-years old to by the time I was a freshman in college,” Allar said.

Even more notable, Allar revealed his level of fandom, telling Tucker he showed up at the stadium regardless.

“No matter the weather or the record,” he said for emphasis.

Will Drew Allar get a shot with the Cleveland Browns?

It might be special for Allar to play for the Browns, but reality in the NFL is a harsh experience. He will play where he’s drafted – unless his last name is “Manning.”

The Browns own two first-round picks in next year’s NFL draft, their own and that of the Jacksonville Jaguars, which was acquired during a trade during this past spring’s draft, one in which they acquired Dillon Gabriel (third round) and Shedeur Sanders (fifth round).

Gabriel has received mixed reviews in training camp and injured his hamstring and did not appear in the opening preseason game against the Charlotte Panthers Aug. 8.

Sanders, however, took advantage of injuries to Gabriel and Kenny Pickett, started the game and connected on 14-of-23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns, sending fans and sports talk radio Monday into a tizzy because Sanders impressed.
