St. Joseph Central Catholic High School of Fremont joined 191 of the top middle school quiz bowl teams at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare Chicago for the 2026 Middle School National Championship Tournament to determine who was the best during the weekend of May 9.
St. Joseph finished the preliminary rounds with a 3-5 record. The team consisted of Aiden Foos, Jacob Lindenberger, Reagan Margraf, Jack Root and Ashton Woolf. The team was coached by Kaycee Hallett.
St. Joseph was one of seven Ohio teams competing at the national championship.
There were some tense moments. St. Joseph suffered a heartbreakingly narrow loss to Journey from Madison, Alabama, 215-195 during round 9 and defeated Immaculate Conception St. Joseph from Chicago, Illinois by the narrow margin of 185-170 during round 13.
St. Joseph was on the brink of elimination when they defeated Williamston from Michigan in round 7 to stay alive. Unfortunately, they lost to Journey, ending their shot at the playoffs.
The tournament champion was the A team from St. Mark’s School of Texas of Dallas, Texas.
Quiz bowl is a competitive, academic, interscholastic activity for teams of four students.
