Spectrum outage impacting Greater Akron and Akron Zoo

Spectrum users in Greater Akron are experiencing a widespread outage May 12 that could be linked to damaged fiber optic cables.

Akron police said that at 8:13 a.m. Tuesday, a caller made the report about the damages. The incident was referred to the property crimes detective bureau for further investigation.

According to a Spectrum alert, service is expected to return by 5 p.m.

The Akron Zoo posted on its site that it’s currently operating without internet nor working phone lines due to the outage. They said while they are remaining open, they encourage visitors to buy tickets online in advance and bring cash to the zoo. They asked for patience as the staff implements offline sales procedures.
