Sebring students enjoy special learning event

Students in Sebring Local Schools enjoyed a night of free fun Sept. 27 that also served as a learning opportunity. The district’s annual Literacy Under the Lights event at Schaefer-Davies Football Stadium included educational activities, music from the Sebring Trojan Marching Band and visiting groups sponsoring learning opportunities. The event started with students running through a “Kick-Off” Tunnel to Literacy formed by the Sebring Trojan Marching Band, cheerleaders and students, meant to mimic a Friday night football game. The entire event was set up to mimic a football game, with four separate periods akin to a game’s quarters. New this year was STEM-Playbook, which harnessed the energy of sports with active learning for students. Attendees were encouraged to bring a book for a swap or to drop a new book in the bin to be distributed to students in the district. All students who attended the event received a free book, with two students taking home their own private reading nook.
