Roundup: Licking County players earn Mid-Ohio Lacrosse League honors

Two Johnstown boys lacrosse players and their coach recently were among those receiving top honors from the Mid-Ohio Lacrosse League.

Johnstown’s Levi Jacob was named Coach of the Year. Senior goalie Ben Smith and junior midfielder Will Taylor represented the Johnnies on the first team.

Granville senior defenseman Rory McShane also was named to the first team. Granville senior attacker Landon Goss and Johnstown senior long stick midfielder Dominic Ortman were named to the second team.

Granville junior midfielder Titus Terebuh, Johnstown senior attacker Logan Brown and Licking Valley sophomore midfielder Darian Wolfe all were named to the special mention list. Granville senior Ethan Gibson, Johnstown senior Anthony Bleas and Valley junior Connor Rindock were their school’s sportsmanship award winner.

TRACK

Reed places twice

Katie Reed covered a distance of 114 feet, 2 inches to take runner-up in the discus for the Utica girls during the Division IV, District 1 meet at Granville.

Reed added a third-place finish in the shot put (34-6½). Teammates Olive Ley placed second in the high jump (4-10) and Maddy Scarberry fourth in the event (4-6) to also qualify for next week’s regional at Marion Harding.

In the boys meet, Northridge’s Xave Fiamingo placed third in both the discus (146-4) and shot put (49-9). Teammate Simon Tornichio matched him in the pole vault (11-0).

Hiebel takes third 

Ella Hiebel ran a time of 11 minutes, 49.61 seconds to place third in the 3,200-meter run for the Johnstown girls during the Division III district meet at Hilliard Darby.

Hiebel also joined Hadley Strausser, Ella Peterman and Amelia Bonito on the third-place 3,200 relay (10:18.44). The Johnnies qualified to next week’s regional at Muskingum University.

SOFTBALL 

Watkins falls in seventh

No. 12 Dublin Coffman scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning, breaking a 2-2 tie and sending No. 8 Watkins Memorial to a 7-3 loss in a Division I district final at London.

Emma Jellison and Sierra Fuchs recorded a hit, a run and an RBI apiece for the Warriors (21-8). Gracie Gerhardt added a double.

BASEBALL

Granville outlasts Highland

Luke Bosse hit an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning, lifting Granville to a 7-6 victory at Highland.

Wilson Wells added three hits and four runs, Jackson McMillan two doubles and three RBIs and Jakob Culver two hits and a run for the Blue Aces (14-9-1). Wells also struck out five and allowed three hits and two earned runs in three innings, and Levi Legg struck out seven and allowed three hits and two runs in five innings.

Valley cruises at home

Brody Rodgers recorded two hits, two runs and an RBI out of the leadoff spot, igniting Licking Valley in a 10-0 victory against visiting East Knox.

Brandt Lichtenauer added a double and three RBIs, Silas Kyle a hit and two RBIs and Evan Lohr a double and two runs for the Panthers (21-4). Brody Sforza struck out two in four one-hit scoreless innings.

Newark drops home game

Luke Miller hit an RBI double for Newark in a 6-2 loss to visiting Westerville Central.

Moses Crane added a hit and a run and Miles Steele and Blake Newsome a hit apiece for the Wildcats (18-7). Cale Saunders struck out four and allowed a hit and a run in two innings.

Johnstown falls on road

Braeden Archibald notched two hits and two runs for Johnstown in a 6-2 loss at Cardington.

Erik Marohl added hit and two RBIs and Jackson Ryan two hits for the Johnnies (10-13). Cody Cradock retired all five of his batters in relief, striking out one.

Watkins drops road game

Dylan Gray doubled home a run for Watkins Memorial in a 12-2 loss at Pickerington Central.

Cam Burt added a hit and a run for the Warriors (15-10).
