Roundup: Liberty Christian softball earns first win of 2026

Jerynn Miller struck out nine, scattered four hits and allowed one unearned run April 16, pitching the Liberty Christian softball team to an 11-1 victory against visiting Northside Christian (1-4, 1-4) in Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play.

Viv Neuhart tripled and singled and drove in three runs to lead the Eagles (1-6, 1-2). Miller added a hit, two runs and two RBIs, Vanessa Carroll a hit, two runs and an RBI, Audrey Soliday a hit, a run and an RBI and Kayla Feeney a double and two RBIs.

Valley blanks Heights

Emory Whisner struck out 11 and walked just one in a four-hit shutout, pitching Licking Valley to a 4-0 victory against visiting Licking Heights in Licking County League-Buckeye Division play.

D’Neya Dennis led the Panthers (11-0, 7-0) with two hits, a run and an RBI. Tori Baughman added a double and a single and Hailey Mueller a hit and an RBI.

Emma Sagle led the Hornets (9-5, 4-3) with two hits, and Cassidy Kasiara added a double. Natalie Mahoney struck out 10 and allowed two earned runs in six innings.

Johnstown rolls

Lucia Kuhn hit a grand slam for Johnstown in an 18-1 victory at Westerville North.

Violet Wentzel doubled and singled and scored three runs, and Abigail Wood added a hit, three runs and two RBIs, Addy Hall a double, two runs and an RBI and Katie Blackburn a double and two RBIs for the Johnnies (8-3-1). Wentzel also struck out five in five three-hit innings.

Newark drops road game

Maygen Woody had a hit and three RBIs for Newark in a 17-4 loss at Groveport (8-7, 4-4) in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.

Mallory Back added two hits and two runs and Lexi Shanaberg two hits, including a double, and a run for the Wildcats (2-12, 1-7).

BASEBALL

Valley shuts out Heights

Jett Vanover, Grayson Snow and Landon Debo combined on a four-hit shutout, pitching Licking Valley to an 8-0 victory against visiting Licking Heights in LCL-Buckeye play.

Brody Rodgers ignited the offense with three hits, including a double, two runs and an RBI for the Panthers (9-1, 6-0). Adam West added two hits, a run and two RBIs, Brandt Lichtenauer two hits and a run, Ethan Wolfe two hits and Zane Hochschild and Brady Croak a hit, a run and an RBI apiece.

Stone Fenton singled and walked for the Hornets (1-8, 1-5). Lance Burkhart allowed four hits and two runs in 2⅔ innings of relief.

TRACK

Richardson, Moberg lead NC

A pair of Newark Catholic runners each won two individual events for the Green Wave boys during a home meet against Granville Christian, Mount Vernon and Fisher Catholic.

Finnbar Richardson crossed in a time of 18.16 seconds to win the 110-meter hurdles, and he later won the 300 hurdles (45.43). Peter Moberg matched him, winning the 100 (11.84) and 200 (24.89) for the Green Wave.

Other individual winners were Cameron Daube in the long jump (17 feet, 2¼ inches) and Cayden Hudson in the discus (85-8). GCA’s Elijah Gram added a win in the shot put (34-11).

In the girls meet, NC’s Emma Allyn swept the shot put (26-10) and discus (92-2). Lily Anderson added a win in the high jump (4-8) as did Avery Yehle in the 400 (1:05.71).

Eliana Jackson swept the 100 (13.47) and 200 (27.55) for GCA.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Newark drops home match

Zalyn Hanzey totaled 12 kills and 19 digs for Newark in a loss to visiting Pickerington North, 25-14, 25-23, 25-21.

Miles Drake added seven kills, 15 assists and two aces, Koby Watson six kills and 11 assists and Dominic Williamson eight kills and three blocks for the Wildcats.
