Bloom-Carroll volleyball outlasts DeSales and is headed to the Sweet 16, OHSAA roundup

It wasn’t easy, but Bloom-Carroll was able to outlast DeSales in a five-set match, 24-26, 28-26, 25-23, 22-25, 15-10 to win the Central District Division III championship at Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

The Bulldogs improved to 24-1 and will face Lima Shawnee at 6 p.m. in a regional semifinal Thursday at Hilliard Darby High School. Sylvia Haughn led the way in the victory against the Stallions with 20 kills, eight digs, and six aces. Kylee Reiser had 10 kills, five digs, four aces and three blocks. Josie Burr finished with 10 kills and two blocks, and Renee Smith added 42 assists.

In a 25-1, 25-6, 25-7 district semifinal win over Linden McKinley, Haughn had 12 kills, Smith had 31 assists and Reiser had eight kills and six aces.

Lady Gales knocked out of tourney: Lancaster was knocked out of the Division I tournament after a 25-11, 25-14, 25-21 loss against Pickerington Central. Hailey Rings had three kills and two Aces, and Hannah Smith chipped in with three kills, Rylee Johnson had three aces, and Caralina Crowell and Zoe Deleon had two Aces apiece. Bella McKnight finished with 12 assists and a kill.

The Gales picked up a huge come-from-behind win over Hilliard Davidson in their first tournament game, overcoming a 2-0 deficit, winning 26-28, 13-25, 25-17, 25-10, 15-8. Brooklyn Thompson had 16 kills, Kileigh Rohr finished with 11 kills and three aces and Hailey Rings added nine kills and eight blocks. Hadley Truex chipped in 13 digs and Bella McKnight had 43 assists, five aces and three kills.

Marietta 1, Fairfield Union 0: The Falcons fell short in their Southeast district championship game. Sadie Schultz finished with four saves.
