What was Curt Cignetti's favorite Halloween candy, costume? Indiana football coach smiles in response

BLOOMINGTON — Curt Cignetti was in it for the candy.

That’s what Indiana football’s second-year coach — whose No. 2 Hoosiers will spend Halloween weekend trying to dodge an upset at Maryland — remembers most about the holiday he said his wife, Manette, enjoys more than he does.

“My wife loves Halloween,” Cignetti said during his weekly Monday news conference. “She’s really disappointed that she’s going to miss it this week.”

His own investment in Oct. 31, Cignetti admitted, is largely confectionary.

Asked Monday if he had a favorite costume growing up, Cignetti couldn’t quite remember whether it was a Batman or a Superman getup his mother made when he was young that stuck with him. But the outfit, Cignetti said, was a secondary concern for him.

“I was a Snickers bar/Reese’s Cup guy,” he said, smiling. “The costume wasn’t as important as getting all the candy.”

He won’t want any surprises on Halloween this year. Friday night’s holiday traditions aren’t likely to intrude upon his preparation for the Terrapins the next day.

IU kicks off at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Maryland. The game will be broadcast on CBS.
