Cincinnati chili has made its way to New York City, but with a twist.
Baseball fans had the opportunity to try a unique version of Cincinnati chili during the Reds-Mets series at Citi Field: the Skyline Chili egg roll.
According to the MLB website, the Skyline Chili egg roll was part of the ballpark’s season-long “Wok ‘N’ Roll’s Cities to Citi Field” promotion, which highlights “famous fare” from different U.S. cities corresponding with the teams that are in town to play the Mets.
Reds sideline reporter Jim Day tried the egg roll, which includes chili, spaghetti and cheddar cheese, during the series finale on May 27. Day, a Reds broadcast fixture for 25 years, said he was willing to try the unusual concoction since he’s a “team player.”
Unfortunately, the dish didn’t earn a glowing review from Day.
“This is the lowest point of my career. And I’ve had some low ones,” he said.
Skyline Chili egg rolls aren’t common in the Queen City, but they aren’t unheard of. The local chain actually has a recipe for the dish featured on their website. Instead of spaghetti, however, the recipe includes whipped cream cheese, jalapeños, green onions and hot sauce.
