A 47-year-old man shot June 15 on Columbus’ Near East Side has died, and police said they have arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with the killing.
Officers responded about 3:10 p.m. June 15 to a report of a shooting on the 1000 block of Mt. Vernon Avenue, Columbus police said in a news release. There they found Timothy Powells unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound.
Medics took Powells to a local hospital in life-threatening condition, according to the release. He died June 19.
On June 20, detectives arrested a 17-year-old, on suspicion of aggravated murder and aggravated robbery, according to the release. He was taken to the Franklin County Juvenile Intervention Center. As of mid-afternoon June 21, prosecutors had not charged him with a crime, according to online court records.
