Put down that latte, pumpkin spice lovers. Your favorite fall flavor has gone savory.
Wings Over, a national chicken chain with Ohio restaurants in Worthington, Upper Arlington and Athens, will debut a pumpkin spice sauce Sept. 15 for its wings, boneless wings and tenders.
We’ve tried it already, and the sauce deserves a place in the pumpkin-spice pantheon.
It’s a sweet, sticky barbecue sauce that includes the familiar pumpkin-spice blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and ginger. Where it veers out of latte land is the addition of heat. “Spice in every sense of the word,” as Wings Over’s own description says.
Although it’s definitely sweeter, the heat, combined with the cloves and other spices, gives the sauce Indian curry-like notes.
Wings Over says the pumpkin-spice flavor will be available through Nov. 30.
