While June 1 typically marks the start of Pride Month and the celebration of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) history and culture, Akron’s own Pride festivities are held in August.
The Akron Pride Festival kicks off near the end of the month, with the 5K on Aug. 22 and the festival on Aug. 23, both in downtown Akron.

Why is Akron Pride in August?
Akron Pride is scheduled later in the summer to avoid directly competing with other Pride Month events held each June in Northeast Ohio.
Where and what time does the Akron Pride 5K take place?
The Akron Pride 5K is on Aug. 22. The race starts and finishes at Canal Place, beginning at 6:30 p.m. and ending at 9 p.m.
How can I register for the Akron Pride 5K?
To register, visit https://runsignup.com/Race/Events/OH/Akron/AkronPride5K. The race fee is currently $30 and is set to increase to $35 after June 30.
